What I think of when I hear the word "Camp" (in one minute or less!)

Camp Lakamaga was (is!) a place where I didn't have to be afraid to be a child again. Having grown up in the countryside and then moving to the city, it was a place where I could actually see stars! I could watch the sun set, spend endless time by the lake and smell a storm before it came (yes I know, weird but I swear you can!)... Plus, camper-free staff boating nights are the best! I got to help girls who had never met each other become best friends, learn new skills and become independent whilst singing strange songs all the time. I had the power to create amazing memories; for myself, but also more importantly for the 6-16 year olds I was surrounded by.
All that made me forget that I probably hadn't showered in days, despite being covered in glittery tie dye and smelling of 99% Deet bug spray that still wasn't strong enough. Plus I definitely never got more than 5 hours sleep on a good night... I didn't meet a long lost twin and there wasn't a guest appearance from the Jonas Brothers so it wasn't perfect, but it was home and it will forever hold a special place in my heart.
