One of the things I miss most about Austria is some of the amazing food! So, when we went back to visit, I made myself a list of all the food and drink I wanted to eat and drink before we returned to the UK.

Here are my top 5:

1. Schnitzel mit Pommes

Traditionally served with cranberry sauce, a trip to Austria wouldn't be complete without a traditional Schnitzel! Whilst the traditional "Wiener Schnitzel" is made from veal, they also often use turkey or pork wrapped in breadcrumbs.

2. Spätzle

There's no real way to describe what Spätzle is, other than cheesy and delicious! Some people say it's a bit like pasta...Served with fried crispy onions, Spätzle never tastes better than amongst the mountains with a glass of Almduddler (see point 5)

3. Kaiserschmarrn

Austrians eat this chopped up pancake dish as a main course for lunch but it also tastes great as pudding! Traditionally served with raisins and apple compote.

4. Germknödel

Again, there's not really any way to describe this dish other than it's kind of a sweet dumpling filled with blueberry sauce covered in poppy seeds. They often serve it with "Vanillien Sauce" which is pretty much runny custard!

5. Almduddler

Kind of a herby lemonade...which sounds disgusting but it's sooo worth a try and can't be bought anywhere else in the world so if you're planning a trip to Austria you might as well give it a try! I promise you won't be disappointed!

So there are a few of my favourite things! I love Austria so much and can't wait to go back soon. Nothing beats the Austrian Food!
